About
Our podcast assumes that shared power and leadership are foundational to effective social movements.
Start here:
Season 1 consists of ten episodes. The first two flesh out our definition of shared power and the remaining eight coincide with the Eight Conversations that Matter Most for Shared Leadership.
The framework and interviews demonstrate how relationship-building and trust are critical to building and maintaining collective leadership models.
Why This Podcast?
We launched this podcast because we see that many organizations who want to advance justice and equity are suffering from crises in leadership.
We see a stark difference in what we, as leaders, want to do and what we know how to do. We want to eschew perpetuating individualism, perfectionism, and either/or thinking. But because this is what we know and what we have seen, we often find ourselves replicating them anyway.
As a result, we often find ourselves working from a place of fear and isolation.
Unfortunately, without the support to think and act differently, leaders are more likely to resign, fire, or force resignations than to commit to processes of trust-building and conflict resolution. And when we don’t trust ourselves or others, we won’t ask for or offer help.
Many of our organizations are fragile due to lack of trust and strong relationships and easily disrupted by conflict.
But we know there is another way.
We can reach for each other, instead of pull away. We can see conflict as generative instead of as a deal-breaker. We can think about power not as something to be hoarded and protected, but as an abundant force for good.
The Shared Power Podcast is for people committed to justice and equity who want to lead together, not alone.
This podcast is for those who believe in collective leadership and are seeking tools and examples on how to build trust, navigate conflict, make decisions, and lead with love.
