The first state-funded Civil Rights Museum in Mississippi will open on Saturday, December 9, in Jackson, MS. Participants in Freedom Lifted tours to Mississippi after this date will feature a visit to this long-awaited museum. Visitors will witness the freedom struggle in eight interactive galleries that show the systematic oppression of black Mississippians and their fight for equality that transformed the state and nation. Seven of the galleries encircle a central space called “This Little Light of Mine.”
Interestingly, the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum and the adjacent Museum of Mississippi History will open simultaneously on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 11 a.m. This free celebration is open to all and will include music, speakers, and food trucks.
